(Recited every day before learning.) May it be Your Will, Hashem my G–d and the G–d of my forefathers, that You will enlighten my eyes with the light of Your Torah. Save me from all pitfalls and errors, whether they arise in the laws of kashrus, in monetary matters, whether in making legal decisions, or in learning. “Open my eyes and I will see the wonders of Your Torah.” Help me to understand the truth of what I’ve already studied, and “Take not the word of truth from out of my mouth.” For, “Hashem gives wisdom, from His mouth knowledge and understanding.” May I not stumble in any matter of law, and may my companions be happy with me. May my friends also not stumble, and help me to rejoice in them. I hereby attach myself through my Torah study to all the true Tzaddikim of our generation, and to all the true Tzaddikim who “dwell in the dust”—the holy ones who are in the earth. And specifically to the true and holy Tzaddik, the Tzaddik who is the “foundation of the world,’ “a flowing brook, a wellspring of wisdom,” and joy and faith, Rebbe Nachman, the son of Simcha and Feiga. May his merit protect us and all the Jewish people. Amen. I hereby accept upon myself to
learn with repentance, with heavenly awe, with love, with humility, with
joy, and with faith. I am learning in order to raise up the Shechinah
from the dust. I will study Torah for its own sake, to give pleasure to
Hashem, and to give pleasure to our Rebbe. May my learning lead me to act,
to guard my eyes, to guard my ears, to guard my speech, and to guard my
thoughts. May my learning bring me to love all my friends with a true love,
with my whole heart and a willing soul and not bring me to harbor any anger,
or strictness toward anyone, even in my heart. May it be study in whose
merit I will come to judge all my friends favorably. By doing so, we will
be worthy of bringing the entire world to repentance, and of seeing the
building of the Temple, with the coming of our righteous Moshiach,
the revelation of our holy Rebbe, and the complete redemption, speedily
and in our days. Amen.
TO BE SAID UPON LEAVING THE SYNAGOGUE.
I thank You, Hashem my G–d and the G–d of my forefathers, that You placed my portion among those who congregate in Your house of study, and not among the idlers who congregate on the streets. For, I rise early, and they too rise early. I rise early to learn words of Torah, and they rise early to hear idle chatter. I toil, and they toil. Yet I toil and receive reward, and they toil and do not receive reward. I rush, and they also rush. But I rush to greet the eternal life of the World to Come, and they rush into the grave. As the verse says: “You, Hashem, will bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloody and deceitful men will not live out half their days, but I will trust in You.” I hereby bind myself to G–d with my thoughts, my speech, and my actions. I attach myself to Him with all my life force, with my every motion, my every sense, my every breath, today and throughout my entire lifetime. I bind myself, my family, and all my dependents to the Holy One, and to all of the true Tzaddikim in our generation, and to all of the true Tzaddikim who “dwell in the dust”, the holy ones that are in the earth, and specifically to the true and holy Tzaddik, the “Tzaddik who is the foundation of the world,” “a flowing brook, a wellspring of wisdom,” and joy and faith, our Rebbe, Nachman, the son of Simcha and Feiga. May his merit protect us and all of the Jewish people. Amen. I hereby dedicate all of my thoughts, speech, and actions, all of my life force, my every motion, my every sense and breath, to Hashem. Today and every day of my life, I dedicate all of myself, my family, and all my dependents to Hashem. May everything we do be in accordance with His mind and His good Will. May this make us worthy of seeing the building of our holy Temple, the arrival of our righteous Moshiach, of the revelation of our holy Rebbe and the complete redemption, speedily and in our days. Amen. I hereby accept upon myself the positive commandment of “And you shall love your fellow Jew as yourself.” (I hereby attach myself through
